Episode 4, in particular, shed light on the complex relationship between He Who Remains and Ravonna Renslayer, suggesting a collaborative effort in winning the Multiversal War. Notably, it was unveiled that He Who Remains erased Renslayer’s memories, strongly suggesting the inception of the Kang Variant’s integration into the TVA’s facade.
Loki Producer Offers Insight into the Erasure of Ravonna’s Memories by He Who Remains
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Martin, the head writer and executive producer of Loki Season 2, delved into He Who Remains’ significant secret, involving the erasure of Ravonna Renslayer’s and the organization’s memories. Many fans had suspected that this was the inception of He Who Remains’ scheme to maintain full power over the TVA through these memory wipes, effectively hiding behind the Time Keepers. Martin confirmed this, explaining that it was done to “retain power.” He clarified, “That’s the microcosm moment for what he did to the entire TVA. He wipes everybody’s minds after he uses them to gain power. He used Renslayer, who believed they were partners, only to have her mind wiped. His strategy involved creating a facade and residing at the Citadel at the End of Time to oversee it all.”
Martin also highlighted the central theme of the characters’ journey in Season 2, emphasizing the consequences of a power vacuum. He explained, “The way I approached it was to consider the aftermath of toppling a dictator, leading to a scenario akin to ‘You break it, you buy it.’ The world they are living in has fallen into disarray and chaos. While some problems were predictable, a multitude of unforeseen challenges emerged.”

The Marvel producer tantalizingly suggested that Loki and his companions are continually adapting and problem-solving as they go, with the ultimate aim of outperforming the previous regime. “You cannot predict precisely how it will unfold, but various factions will contend for power, as seen throughout history.
